My personal reviews and opinion on everything that I feel like being a critic.
2 Guns (2013)
4th Sept 2013
On a random night with friends, we decided to watch a movie. There is only a few good movies shown at that time and since I'm an avid fan of Mark Wahlberg, we decided to go for "2 Guns" although we don't know anything about it.
This movie is like Mr and Mrs Smith, were two of them are actually working with each other pretending to be criminals even though the are really not. Denzel from DEA and Mark from U.S. Naval.
A lot of twists in the movie that make your brains really work. The lines of Stig (Mark) in the movie are the once that really interests me. Like this:
Stig: [to Bobby] You're my people and we have a code. You fight for the guy that's fighting next to you.
If you're up for some action with comedy and romance with a twist of friendship that is least expected, I suggest you watch this.

OZ the Great and Powerful (2013)

This is all about a small-time magician swept away to an enchanted land and is forced into a
power struggle between three witches (IMDB).
Animation nowadays are really powerful which makes a fairytale land more realistic. This movie is the prequel of the WIZARD of OZ which I've seen since I was a child, a story revolving Dorothy.
This movie makes us think that we can be great and powerful even without magic. The only thing essential is intelligence and that made OSCAR DIGGS being the Wizard prophecies to save the Emerald City. Although he was greedy at first, he realized that the people who are very hopeful and have put their trust on him, he changed and helped them instead. Being a fraud magician, he ended up being a real one using a different mode of magic. I like animated fairytale movies, I still believe this side of this earth exist. The reach minds of the creators are really good when they've made this movie. It's like in real life, when we are having problems, we tend to look for the easy way out not thinking that we should not run from it, instead find the best possible solution.
THE HOST (2013)

I've read the book by Stephanie Meyer years ago, I know that it's interesting but not complicated to understand. The movie itself was a good adaptation.
When an unseen enemy threatens mankind by taking over their bodies and erasing
their memories, Melanie will risk everything to protect the people she cares
most about, proving that love can conquer all in a dangerous new world. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1517260/)
I like the places where they've shot the movie, it makes you feel that you're really there and humans are already instinct. Love is always part I think on Stephanie Meyer's books but on this book its a love triangle but not really. Wanda the soul inside the body of Melanie also fell inlove with a human Ian and Melanie is inlove with another guy Jared. But there is a solution for everything and it they live happily ever after.
I've watched this movie with friends which I suggest you do so to have variety of comments that creates a reason to have coffee after watching for discussion. I haven't read the book so I don't know what to expect but as many know, book adapted movies are not as good and complete as the book. It's limited to 2 and half hours that shortens the detailed story. So I'm going to review this in the point of view of a movie watcher who don't know anything about the existence of the book.
With the short summary in the beginning of the movie, I've understood that this is like a population control same as China although instead of the one child policy, there are "sacrificial lamb" or people for that matter for each district in the world. The Tributes as they call them are in their adolescent years from 12 to 18 yrs old. They will fight with each other and the only one left will be the survivor of the Hunger Games.
The Hunger Game is the title of the annual event that all people are looking forward or most, are scared for its occurrence. The game will be held in a manmade like environment where they could fight for their lives. Based on the trailer, I thought they need to find food through nature and try to find ways to live due to starvation that's why it's called The Hunger Game right? But I'm wrong because I took it literally, the tributes fight for there lives by killing one another which should be The Hunger (for survival) game.
Discrimination among movies is not a new thing especially from the rich versus the marginalized. The movie shows that the last district which is the poorest are doing there best to put food on their tables. While in the capital, they have a very unique sense of fashion and have lavished lifestyle with a different kind of shower. I like adventure movies where a woman can do more than a man, I feel that in this generation, woman can live independently very well that no one could look down on her. The movie also shows how anyone in the "government" could sacrifice their people while they just watch and make enjoyment out of there peoples helplessness.
As I see it, the movie still show how we value family, thinking of not giving up without a fight, being able to survive in whatever obstacles we may encounter and that love could make impossible things possible.
"May the odds be ever in your favor."

In the K-pop (Korean Pop) world, i'm a Bigbang fan, which automatically means that I love everything about them. This is the outcome of their great labour after all the unfortunate experiences for the previous year. It goes to show that life has to move forward and instead of avoiding their problems, they faced it and made it an inspiration for them to become mature individuals and grateful of all the blessings they have. I know I'm a bias, but if you don't like it, it still means that you've listened to their music since you commented, am I right?
The best thing Big Bang offers to their supporters is that they can pull off any genres of music with having great live performances. Just read an article about their album not selling as much as their previous album but it doesn't make them less as musicians. Money after all is not everything, if they've shown to the world that they can stand back again and bring happiness to people then it's more than enough. Still looking forward for their next contribution to the music world. Kudos Big Bang.

Hanna (2011)

HANNA (2011). At first, the title seemed like another teen movie like Hannah Montana but it's totally different. Besides the trailer that I've seen that shows a teenager fighting bad guys, the father seemed to be familiar. Sometimes I forget names for hollywood actors so for curiosity sake I watched it with friends. Hanna seemed to be living in a very secluded forest away from the people world by his father who is Eric Bana (famously known as Incredible Hulk). She was trained like a soldier. I just love how she went to the real world and find her mothers killer. I'd want her to be my friend. She's above normal, an experiment child whose main purpose was be the greatest soldier. Saoirse Ronan (Hanna) portrayed her role so effectively that created confidence for movie watchers that she can go against the bad guys do easily. Though this experiment could be possible nowadays, I just found this specific inconsistency which is her ability to technology. She managed to search details and found out about her DNA through the net considering she hasn't seen/hold a computer since birth. I'm just not sure if I missed a part that they show that the experiment child could have the ability to adapt to technology. The actions and effects are not really high, it's purely human fighting which made all her training served its purpose. I just feel that they should have added at the end on the movie Hanna's whereabouts after killing the villain. I just want to know how she will fit in and how she will live without running to any other people who would take advantage here capabilities.

JUST GO WITH IT

This movie starred by Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. I've watched it 3 times and it still amuses me about the way they throw they're lines in the movie, it so natural, that's the forte of Adam Sandler. Though it's not really realistic that some of the lies are not revealed with all clear signs. They seem to always get away with it. Palmer (Brooklyn Decker) is fooled easily, not even a doubt. The kids are really good in their acting but are kids nowadays think of deals with adults? or maybe I'm just part of the not so modern world. The cousin of Dr Maccabee is kinda worrying and annoying, maybe that is always part of any movie, the sidekick who can always be kicked. One thing, the idea of using a nemesis name in lieu of poo could be a good idea, well just for me. If you are looking for a feel good movie and still feel love, watch this and Just Go With It. :-)

I was hesitant to watch this movie since I don't really follow independent movies in the Philippines. But the decision to watch it was all worth it. We may have known as one of the marginalize countries in the world but we all have dreams. As the message written on their movie ad, she didn't ran from her problems, she ran to solve it.
The use of the Ilocano language in the movie and the consistencies in the movie is really accurate. Even the smallest detail used (i.e. glasses, no table) are given enough attention. It also shows how we value our families, how great we can sacrifice for their sake. Children maybe stubborn sometimes but when problem arises, the true care and love for our families will come out.
A movie that even non-Filipinos could appreciate since all of us belong to a family and we all encounter problems in life. Giving up shouldn't be an option, we are not given problems that we can handle, we just have to know how to react on it. Kudos creators of Thelma. Keep up the good work.
Switch (2010)

THE SWITCH (2010). This movie is all about mixing science with love. Kassie (Jennifer Aniston), who I see is not ugly or unsuitable enough to be anyones wife decided to have artificial insemination (not sure if it's the right one). This is not prohibited but not encourage from my culture but what made me wondered is why they made it known to so many peers. If I were to do it,I think I'll keep it secretly and not throw a party. But I think this is our dynamic world, like telling the world through shout outs, even your location is publicized. Back to the movie, the reason why I think they entitled it THE SWITCH, because of the switch of the "ingredient" which in the real word won't be possible. They missed that detail, should the "ingredient" be preserved at the laboratory's and not lavatory's? A drunk man could not just switch it, worst someone might drink it. On the other hand, Sebastian (the product child) is so intelligent that you might thinking having this scientific procedure could have a very good outcome besides a child which already a blessing.
The producers have found the perfect child actor, he really fits the role (not trying hard), so natural. Most of the best friend relationship in the movies I've watched end up being lovers. Is it too familiar? I guess I can't relate since I don't have a male best friend. What struck me is the line from Wally (Jason Bateman) said "Look at us. Running around. Always rushed. Always late. Guess that's why they called it the human race. But sometimes, it slows down just enogh for all the pieces fall into place Fate works it's magic. And you're connected. " I do believe in Fate, if its meant to be, its meant to be.
